Here's More About It:
1985 KX 500 Kawasaki introduced the KX500 in 1983. It is widely considered that 1985 was the year they got it right. Second year water cooled. Front disc, rear drum. Pre power valve. I’m sure somewhere along the line, someone pushed an 85 KX500 out of a show room and into a garage, never to see the light of day again. This is not that bike. What it is, is an extremely well preserved, lightly ridden KX 500, and as far as I know, never raced. I bought it 2 1/2 years ago from a guy who bought it from an owner that had it stored in a private collection for fifteen years, same thing with the prior owner. That’s 30 years in storage. The previous owner replaced the fork seals and rebuilt the master cylinder/brake caliper and the carb. When I bought it, the head gasket was seeping, so the head and cylinder was lapped on a steel lapping table at Racers Edge in Lakewood, Colorado and NOS seals were installed. Bike is jetted for 7,000 feet. Standover height is actually less than my old WR450. Starts second kick every time! As far as I am aware, this bike is carrying all of its original parts. Everything appears to carry Kawasaki part numbers. The only addition to the bike was a spark arrestor, necessary for off road use in Colorado. You can tell the bike has had light use. Frame rails are undamaged originals. Original exhaust has one, small indentation, notice I didn't call it a dent. As far as I know, there is no pipe available for the 1985. Ride it as is, or do a relatively simple restoration of a super clean original. I HAVE A CLEAR COLORADO TITLE IN MY NAME. Motorcycle is for sale locally, subject to prior sale. Sold as is, no warranty express or implied. Ask questions first as there is no returns.
